Other interestingAt the furniture fair, there were also several interesting student projects on display. Some Norwegian students from Kunsthøgskolen in Bergen exhibited his works and one of them was Ingunn Eikeland.

Eikeland has designed a stylish coffee table that has been named Pooh and those who had the honor to check out this table could see that it is an original product that Norwegian women have developed. Table consists of a rounded fiberboard where center of the circle is a design that visualize the pattern of a pool of water which is hit by a raindrop ("Fried" means "puddle" in Swedish).

The polished table top stand steadily on a pair of steel legs and forms a lush beautiful drive. Young Norwegian design is certainly initiative!

We will in the following weeks to write about interesting things we saw at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, which took place from 4th to 8th February.
We start by talking about a prestigious award that was given to a couple of Swedish designers. Newton coffee table by Karl Andersson & Sons won namely this year's Nordic design award at the furniture fair and it is Dan Sunaga and Staffan Holm is behind this molded wooden table. The jury believes that the furniture "is unique in its design language with a strong graphic identity." Nordic Design Prize has been awarded since 1983 and focuses on the creators of compression molded wood furniture.

Many of you have probably heard of Corona chair or recognize it from the "moment of truth." The designer behind the Corona, it is probably not as many people know about.
We will therefore look at another one of Denmark's leading designers - Poul Volther.

I dare say that in almost every home, they can find a couch. It can be a sofa, sofa bed, finsoffa, corner sofa, leather sofa, modular sofa ... dear child has many names and there are a plethora of different varieties of "seating with room for two or more people." I've never come across a similar sofa in two different homes. However, it is not surprising given all the lovely sofas that we have our Nordic designers to thank for.
Finn Juhl, a Danish designer, designed several amazing couches in 1940 - and the 50's. Juhl sofa poet reminds a little about Carl Malmsten Sofa Samsas , which is my absolute favorite couch. The favorite among Juhl sofa is something extraordinary. The sofa impresses with its unique two-piece backrest that closes the sitting like a protective wall.

Carl Malmsten is perhaps Sweden's most prominent designers. In Malmsten design, we see a mix of tradition and modernity in the simplicity of the Swedish peasant furniture as a starting point. Malmsten forms came to have a major influence on future generations of designers and the development of modern Swedish furniture.
Malmsten was raised in a middle-class family in Stockholm at the end of the 1800s, but was as a young man not interested in either education or status. He was considered controversial and outspoken back then and he took employment as an apprentice carpenter. He quickly became a highly skilled craftsman and in combination with a strong interest in art, this was the beginning of a great career. Malmsten was recognized designer at age 28 in 1916 when he won both the first and second prize in a furniture competition under the auspices of the Stockholm City Hall.

The influence of a designer has at his contemporaries and future generations is a good measure of their talent. Verner Panton is a magnificent specimen of this with its influential forms. Panton is known for its revolutionary design in the choice of both forms of material. The characteristics of Panton's work is a sculptural elegance, striking shape, and above all color. Panton forms stood out from other contemporary design, the best possible way.
Panton grew up on the Danish island of Funen, where his father ran an inn. Panton began to study architectural line in Odense and his interest in design took him on to Copenhagen, where he continued studying at the Royal Danish Academy. Then he was hired at Arne Jacobsen's architectural office, where he stayed for two years. It is rumored however that Panton was one of the best staff, when he would rather prefer to spend their time on developing their own ideas.

Other interestingOne of the most recognized craftsmen from the modern period in Nordic design is Poul Kjærholm. Kjærholm career spanning 32 years during which he designed and produced several furniture, mostly chairs and tables. Kjaerholm began his career with an apprenticeship with a Danish cabinet-maker, followed by a course in furniture design at Kunsthåndværkerskolen in Copenhagen.

The combination of his skills as a carpenter and the knowledge acquired in the school's industrial design module (which was taught by Jørn Utzon) was clearly shown in the chair, PK25, which was his thesis. The angular aspect of the chair with its curved feet made for a striking silhouette and success followed shortly. PK25 was brought into production by E. Kold Christensen, who became a good friend of Kjærholm.
