Mathsson Folding Table: designed for versatility beauty
Bruno Mathsson is best known for his chairs and his architectural designs such as his well-insulated and beautiful glass house, but he made other fine home furnishings inclusive computer table, sofa beds and dining table. One of the most versatile and well known is Mathsson folding table, a design that is stylish and beautiful but also extremely practical.
It seemed natural to a young Mathsson would grow up to work with especially wood, genera Mathsson had not worked on anything else during the five generations before him. As a little boy, he had chores to do in the family's furniture and carpenter, and he had practical experience and knowledge of different techniques, tools and the woods all his life.
To learn more, especially in engineering and technology aspect that were not available in the small town Värnamo, ordered Mathsson books and consulted experts. He was not only learning and knowledge but also created a network of mentors who would help him later. His formal education was part funded through design awards he won for his furniture .

Bruno Mathsson: six generations of outstanding furniture designs
The Swedish designer Bruno Mathsson was born into a family of furniture nods Värnamo ( Google Maps ) 1907th His father was a well-known furniture makers producing well-designed wooden furniture as well as four generations Mathsson previously had done. During his childhood, he learned not only the technical skills needed to make furniture, but also a feeling of natural wood and a tradition of producing furniture out of the ordinary.
Bruno Mathsson was fascinated by the technical aspects of furniture design and began reading everything he could find about the subject. He borrowed books from museums and design centers and formed contacts that would prove to be life-long mentor and colleagues. Largely self-taught on both the technical aspects of furniture design, different design styles, he became obsessed with functionalism. One of his functionalist designs gave him finally a scholarship.
Bruno Mathsson was not at all satisfied with the limitations of traditional furniture design brought with him and he therefore began to experiment with including chairs without springs and heavy padding that it was possible to adjust the position of - all with a clean and elegant style. Some of his designs were so offices controversial that they were hidden away until Bruno Mathsson become a household name.
