Bruno Mathsson was fascinated by the technical aspects of furniture design and began reading everything he could find about the subject. He borrowed books from museums and design centers and formed contacts that would prove to be life-long mentor and colleagues. Largely self-taught on both the technical aspects of furniture design, design styles, he became obsessed with functionalism. One of his functionalist designs eventually gave him a scholarship.

Bruno Mathsson was not at all satisfied with the limitations of traditional furniture design brought with him and he therefore began to experiment with including chairs without springs and heavy padding that it was possible to adjust the position of - all with a clean and elegant style.
