Stylish Norwegian design on show

Nora of Norway products on the webshop.

The Norwegian furniture company, Nora launched a new dinner table at this year's Stockholm Furniture Fair. The table, which is designed by Öystein Austad and Jonas Stokke, is made entirely of wood and gives a clean feeling. Table dimensions are 180 × 90x72, but it can also be supplied in a larger expandable version.

Nora is a relatively new Norwegian company that specializes in making and selling furniture with exclusive design. Among the designs is seen in Tore Borgerssen, Michael Olofsson, Ivar Grødal and already mentioned Austad and Stokke. Only Norwegian guttar in other words!

Scandinavia's best sofas?

I dare say that in almost every home, they can find a couch. It can be a sofa, sofa bed, finsoffa, corner sofa, leather sofa, modular sofa ... dear child has many names and there are a plethora of different varieties of "seating with room for two or more people." I've never come across a similar sofa in two different homes. However, it is not surprising given all the lovely sofas that we have our Nordic designers to thank for.

Finn Juhl, a Danish designer, designed several amazing couches in 1940 - and the 50's. Juhl sofa poet reminds a little about Carl Malmsten Sofa Samsas , which is my absolute favorite couch. The favorite among Juhl sofa is something extraordinary. The sofa impresses with its unique two-piece backrest that closes the sitting like a protective wall.

Carl Malmsten - naive idealist or misunderstood genius?

Carl Malmsten is perhaps Sweden's most prominent designers. In Malmsten design, we see a mix of tradition and modernity in the simplicity of the Swedish peasant furniture as a starting point. Malmsten forms came to have a major influence on future generations of designers and the development of modern Swedish furniture.

Malmsten was raised in a middle-class family in Stockholm at the end of the 1800s, but was as a young man not interested in either education or status. He was considered controversial and outspoken back then and he took employment as an apprentice carpenter. He quickly became a highly skilled craftsman and in combination with a strong interest in art, this was the beginning of a great career. Malmsten was recognized designer at age 28 in 1916 when he won both the first and second prize in a furniture competition under the auspices of the Stockholm City Hall.
