In olden times, the costly demand of night time illumination gave birth to Chandeliers as a symbol of luxury. A chandelier during those times was a branched candle holder and usually very functional. The most common form then was that of wrought iron chandeliers which, as its name suggests, were made of wrought iron. And even in our modern time, wrought iron chandeliers are still in use.

When most of Europe was still under the reign of kings and monarchs, the crystal chandelier, together with wrought iron chandeliers, were the primary source of illumination that makes the castles and mansions glitter with joy. Peasants and ordinary townspeople during those times also utilize wrought iron chandeliers to light up their simple homes. Guards and hunters also use them because of their portability that allows them to be carried and shed light upon their path. Wrought iron chandeliers truly served their purpose and gave light especially with the cold dark mist that covered the land during night.

The development of glass making in the 18th century allowed the advent of the crystal chandelier. From then on, the crystal chandelier became the climax of glamour and style. Through time, the crystal chandelier became a highlight of style and grace. A place decorated by crystal chandelier is viewed as an astonishing and serves as one of the best additions one can give a house. The crystal chandelier serves its purpose by welcoming guests and visitors with astonishment.

Chandeliers have developed through time. In the past, they were used as candle holders or a collection of lamps powered by gas. But during the 19th century, some types were already patterned for the use of electricity. The customization of chandeliers for electricity gave way to the birth of the modern chandeliers which we now enjoy.

In contrast to the previous designs which incorporate the use of wax and gas, modern chandeliers are now powered by electricity. Due to their simple designs, modern chandeliers are now easier to maintain and install. The past designs that needed fire in order to give light were proven to be dangerous. With the current mechanism of modern chandeliers, one can rest assured that not a single fire will break out. Modern chandeliers are more utilized for decorative purposes than its function for it is a symbol of prestige. Now in modern times, still the beauty of a home's interior depends on the artistic arrangement of furniture and one way to give it elegance in a home interior design is the presence of an exquisite chandelier. Making it a center piece for the living room or dining area is one of the most popular applications of a chandelier. Chandeliers can also be used in any part of the house in which one finds it good to look at and the same time, serve its purpose of illuminating the place.

Modern chandeliers are still beautiful, elegant and are a bonanza of visual proportions. From its inception, these objects in their wrought iron chandeliers form were simultaneously a class of aesthetics and functionality at the same time. Nothing perhaps demonstrates this better than the crystal chandelier. It can illuminate a place literally and through a shower of facets of beauty for onlookers.
