Water fountains exudes a distinct element that makes them truly different from other water features. Fountains are often acknowledged for their ability to induce serenity in the surroundings where they are situated. They can function as interior and exterior decorations, or even as bird havens in the form of birdbaths. Regardless of their varying functions and structures, the only thing that matters the most is that they would be used and innovated for more years to come.

From as far back as 3000 BC fountains have frequently appeared throughout history. During the period of ancient Egyptians, the use of fountains were recorded in their tomb paintings, while ancient Persians used these water features as symbolic representations of paradise. Meanwhile, ancient Romans and Greeks utilized wall fountain and floor fountain pieces as their official public baths and drinking stations, while in China where large piazzas were made, sculptured fountains were used as centerpieces. In this regard, it cannot be denied that fountains play a significant role in the development of ancient civilizations as they become the most important sources of water to cultivate their lands and where people usually get their fill of drinking water.

Water fountains function with the help of gravity and this power could be facilitated with aid of three important fountain parts: the reservoir, pump and fountain head. All fountains have a reservoir from which they draw their water and to which the water flows back, creating an enclosed circuit. It is the pump that moves the water; its spinning impeller runs in an accelerated speed producing centrifugal force that forces the water out of the pump. The water forced from the pump eventually goes out into the fountain head where it is sprinkled through a nozzle towards the outside structure of this water feature and is then drained back into the reservoir.

There are various types of fountains that could either be used indoor or outdoor, or for residential or commercial purposes. The smallest of them are known as tabletop fountains are used on tabletops. A floor fountain is a freestanding feature often used as a statement feature in place of sculptures both for indoor and outdoor areas. Wall fountains, as their name implies, are mounted on a wall, panels and even fences. Garden fountains on the other hand are larger and are commonly used as centerpieces for large outdoor spaces and may take the forms of sculpted topiary and series of connected pools.

Placing a fountain actually provides many benefits especially in terms of health and well being. For example, an indoor wall fountain not only serves as a wall ornament but could also stand as a source of pleasure for the people who often see it. The tranquil and relaxing sound of flowing water could easily provide relaxation and comfort, and could reduce stress even while in urban setting. Nonetheless, fountains could humidify and add moisture to rooms, which in turn cleans the air you breath, and at times could also function as drinking sources for pets.

Generally, water fountains are legendary pieces that are continuously innovated through the years. Since the ancient times until today they prevail as one of the most extraordinary man-made water features. Nevertheless, their many purposes enabled these pieces to arise as one of the most important multifunctional decorative features today. It is not at all surprising that these water features are often used both in commercial and residential spaces.

Water fountains have long been used throughout history. In fact, these water features can be considered as the most popular multifunctional decorative fixtures to date. Fountains come in differing styles and finishes, the most common of which are the floor fountain and indoor wall fountain designs. Actually, the decorative value as well as the multifunctional use of these features has been their selling points since yesteryears.
